As her acclaimed retrospective continues to tour the country and a belated New York Times obituary introduces her to new audiences, master printmaker Belkis Ayón (1967–1999) set a world record at auction for her collograph Untitled (Sikán with White Tips).

Presented as Lot 98 in Phillips’ “New Now” sale of international contemporary art, Ayón’s print was featured alongside works by Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Glenn Ligon, and other artists.

Estimated at a modest $3,000–$5000, Untitled (Sikán with White Tips) sold for $47,500 (including buyers premium).

The price set a new world record for Ayón at auction.
